Biography

Brian Loyd was a catcher and first baseman who played in college at the College of the Redwoods and then Cal State Fullerton, helping the Titans win the 1995 College World Series. Loyd had been selected by the Florida Marlins in the 26th round of the 1992 MLB Draft, but elected to go college. In 1996 he was taken by the San Diego Padres in the fifth round of the draft.

Loyd signed with the Padres, but never made it to the major leagues. He was a career minor leaguer from 1997-2003, playing consecutively with the Clinton LumberKings in A-ball in 1996-97, the Dunedin Blue Jays and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 1998, the Double-A Knoxville Smokies in 1999, and the Tennessee Smokies and Syracuse SkyChiefs in 2000, moving up to Triple-A with the SkyChiefs. He dropped back down to A+ ball in 2001 with the Lake Elsinore Storm, then played with the Smokies again, before returning to Triple-A with the Portland Beavers. In 2002 he was with the Beavers and the Mobile BayBears, before finishing his career back in Double-A in 2003 with the Gulf Coast Red Sox and the Portland Sea Dogs.
