Biography

Patrick O’Neill was born in Connecticut but raised in West Germany, where he learned to play handball. He was originally selected as an alternate with the American team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, because he trained primarily in Europe, but he ended up playing in the Games, where the United States placed 10th overall. O’Neill attended the University of Texas, El Paso, where he played football, a sport in which he later coached at the high school level. This led him to administration, eventually leading at the district level, and his successes in this realm led him to be inducted into the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
