Biography

Gösta Runö was bronze medalist in the Modern Pentathlon at Antwerpen in 1920 after winning the swimming and running events. Runö was a Swedish military pilot with the rank of lieutenant. Only two years after the Olympics he died when he crashed his Phönix D III plane on the way from Malmen Airbase to Lilla Ånestad, 3 km south of Linköping. His father placed a small memorial stone at the crash site. After the stone was damaged in 1986 it was restored and is now kept at the Air Force Museum.
