Biography

Ian Johnston was a rowing coxswain who competed in coxed pairs at the 1960 Roma Olympics. At the time he was only 13 years, 75 days old, still (as of 2018) Australia’s youngest male Olympian. Johnston became much better known for his business success. He worked in various businesses, starting out with Gillette, but serving eventually as managing director of Cadbury Schweppes in both Australia and the United Kingdom. In 2007 he was made a director of Foster’s Group, Ltd., and in 2008 he was asked to serve as acting CEO after Trevor O’Hoy stepped down from that position. In September 2008 he took over as permanent CEO of Foster’s. In September 2011 Foster’s was taken over by SABMiller and Johnston stepped down, retiring.
