Horst Nußbaumer was an Austrian rower participating at the 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta, and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. With the quadruple sculls he placed 14th in 1992 and 11th in 2000. In 1996 he rowed the single sculls and came ninth. Nußbaumer won a silver medal with the quadruple sculls at the 1991 World Championships and added a bronze medal in 1998.
Nußbaumer studied business administration and worked in private banking. In 2022, he moved from the major Swiss bank UBS to the Austrian bank Spängler. Nußbaumer was married and raised two children.
In 2013, Nußbaumer became President of the Austrian Rowing Association until 2025 when, on 24 March 2025, he was elected president of the Austrian Olympic Committee.
