Biography

Bernard Monnereau rowed double sculls alongside René Duhamel at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics, just missing medals, placing fourth in 1960 and sixth in 1964. The pair had finished second at the 1958 European Championships. Together they won 10 French Championships in double sculls, but the highlight of their career came in 1962 when they won the World Championships in doubles in Lucerne. At the 1963 Mediterranean Games Monnereau and Duhamel won gold in doubles, and Monnereau added another gold medal in single sculls.

Monnereau retired after the Tokyo Olympics and began a long career with IBM, becoming an executive with the company. He also became chairman of the rowing club in his native Orléans.
