Biography

Ulrich Kons rowed on the gold medal-winning East German eights at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. He had won the eights gold medal at the 1977 World Championships and finished fourth in 1981. He added a second World title with the coxed fours in 1982.

Kons became a graduated sports teacher and rowing coach. He was employed by his home club ASK Vorwärts Rostock until German re-unification when he worked, firstly as a pharmacy agent and then became a rowing coach in Mecklenburg Western Pomerania.
