Biography

In 1949 István Fazekas won a silver medal at the national championship in the colours of CSKTA. A year later, Fazekas repeated this, and from there he was on a direct path to the military, becoming a boxer for the Budapest Honvéd. In 1951 he won another silver medal there, and perhaps this was also the reason he was invited to the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. Despite being eliminated in the first round at the Games, he later represented Hungary again, this time at the European Championships in Warsaw a year later, where the first round was also the final stop.

In 1956, in the colours of the Vörös Lobogó, Fazekas won another silver medal at the national championship. A year later, the club regained its original name (MTK), and Fazekas won further silver and bronze medals at the national championships.

Fazekas began his coaching career in the early 1960s, and at the invitation of the famous coach of the time, Gyula Bódis, he soon became an employee of Honvéd again. He died relatively young, at the age of 50.
