Egon Bazini

Egon Szandtner and his brother Károly, competing for Nemzeti Hajós Egylet, won the championship in double sculls four times between 1934 and 1937. In 1937, he also won the championship title in single sculls, with his brother finishing in second place. They won a gold medal at the 1933 World College Games and a silver medal at the European Championship in Amsterdam in 1937. At the 1935 European Championship they finished fourth. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the two Szandtner brothers competed under the name Bazini, but did not reach the final.

In 1940 the brothers took over the family business. They did not have the opportunity to enjoy the prosperity of the family company for long. The nationalization in 1948 abolished the family property and later the production withered. In 1979, the factory was liquidated, with all production in the plant stopping. In 1990, when the Nemzeti Hajós Egylet was re-established, Egon Szandtner was elected as president.
