Biography
Ferenc Kirchknopf started his sporting career as a cyclist and athlete before turning to rowing with the famous Pannónia Rowing Club (PEE). He won 10 national rowing titles, the last being with the PEE eights in 1922.
After his competitive sporting career, he became the chairman of the Hungarian Cycling Federation, a post he held for 20 years. Thanks to him, Budapest staged the 1928 Cycling World Championships. As a sports diplomat, he put in a lot of effort to bring Hungary back into the International Olympic Committee after the Trianon Peace Treaty, following World War I. That is why Miklós Horthy, Governor of Hungary, appointed him as a senior advisor to the Government.
