Rino Campioto rowed for the Marina Militare in Roma and competed at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in the coxed eights, where his crew was eliminated at the semi-final stage.
Back in Italy, he was well-known in his home city of Brindisi for his internationally popular pizza establishment called “Boomerang“, so called as a reminder of his Olympic experience. In 1990, Rino, along with wife Monika (who he met during the Olympics) and four daughters, moved from Italy to live in Sydney. However, he always maintained close links with Brindisi, coming back occasionally for summer holidays, or for the annual city festival. Rino, a father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in Sydney at almost 85-years-of-age.
