Biography

Born in Salerno of Stabia parents, Giuseppe Di Capua spent his entire club career with Castellammare di Stabia. He was the cox for the Abbagnale brothers, rulers of the 1980s in the pair. Between 1981 and 1993 Di Capua contributed to seven gold medals, two silvers, and one bronze at the World Championships, and the two Olympic Championships at Los Angeles in 1984 and in Seoul 1988, adding a silver in 1992 in Barcelona.

The symbolic image of the crew is that of the Abbagnale brothers celebrating by throwing the little cox into the water. Di Capua was also on a lightweight eight that won World gold at Lucerne in 1982. In 1993 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Italian Republic and in 2015 the Collare d ‘Oro for sporting merit.
