Biography

Sverre Kråkenes won his first Norwegian national title in the single sculls in 1950 and defended it in 1951. Although he did not win in 1952, he was selected to represent his country in the coxless fours at that year’s Helsinki Olympics. There, alongside his older brothers Torstein and Harald, as well as Kristoffer Lepsøe, he was eliminated in the semi-finals repêchage.

Between 1955 and 1961, Sverre won six of the seven national single sculls titles available, missing only 1957 when the event was won by Robert Fegth. He also returned to the Olympics in 1956, competing in the double sculls with Harald, where the duo was eliminated in the round one repêchage. Following his retirement from competition, Sverre remained athletically active into his 90s by hunting.
