Biography

Estuardo Masías competed in coxless pairs at the 1960 Roma Olympics. Masías also competed at the 1959 Pan American Games in the coxed fours but his boat finished third in its semi-final and did not advance to the final.

Masías studied agronomy at the National Agricultural University of La Molina, and then earned a master’s degree at the University of California, Riverside in the United States. He later started a business raising chickens but struggled in that profession. He then switched to the selling the chicken’s eggs, starting the La Calera company, and later switched to growing mandarin oranges. La Calera eventually became the largest poultry company in Peru and Masías became quite wealthy.
