Biography

Before his participation at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, the reigning Italian champion, Giovanni Alfonsetti, had won a light-heavyweight bronze medal at the 1951 European Championships in Milano, when he was also part if the Italian squad that won the team award. He followed that later in the year, by winning the light-heavyweight gold medal at the Mediterranean Games. He turned professional in 1952 and, in a career of more than five years, had 29 bouts with 26 wins (17 by knockout) and three losses.
