Biography

Graduating from the Naval Academy in 1920, Virgil Jacomini rowed on their eight that decimated the opposition at Antwerp to win the Olympic gold medal. Jacomini only remained in the Navy for a short time because after World War I the military was trying to decrease its numbers and graduating midshipmen were then given the option of resigning their commission. Jacomini took up this option in 1923 and became an engineer.
