Giovanni Camputaro

Giovanni Camputaro was an Italian boxer who made his national début in 1974 by winning the international tournament at České Budějovice. Selected for the Montréal Games as a flyweight, he sustained an eye injury in the first match that prevented him from going any further. Camputaro turned pro immediately after the Olympic disappointment and became Italian champion in October 1977 in Milano, defeating Claudio Tanda by TKO. He lost the Italian crown in June 1979 to Sabatino De Filippo and then regained it in November, only to lose it again.

Camputaro challenged the Brit Charlie Magri in London for the European title in 1980 but was defeated by TKO in the third round. After unsuccessful attempts to regain the Italian title, he also lost another European title fight in August 1983, losing to the Frenchman Antoine Montero. He closed his professional career in April 1987 with a record of 20 wins (3 by KO), 14 losses (4 by KO) and 2 draws. His brother Luigi, 11 years younger, was also an Italian flyweight champion and an EBU European Champion in 1993.
