Biography

Mario Casati was an Italian boxer. Born in a small town near Milano, he began boxing at a very young age with the club Unione Sportiva Lombarda, coached by his father Luigi. As an amateur his best year was 1967. In May in Roma he won the European middleweight title and in September won the gold medal in the same category at the Mediterranean Games. Casati went to the 1968 Mexico City Olympics as a medal favorite, but lost his opening bout to Bulgaria’s Simeon Georgiev by a 4-1 decision. Casati turned professional in January 1969 but had a short career, fighting only seven bouts until July 1970 with a professional record of 6 wins and 1 draw.
