Biography

Peter Sharis rowed for Harvard, also spending time in college at MIT. He competed for the US at the 1987 World Junior Championship, helping the eight to a gold medal. In addition to his 1992 Olympic appearance in the pair, Sharis rowed an eight at the 1989 and 1990 World Championships.

After college Sharis attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He then did a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, near where he grew up. Sharis did a fellowship in cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He later joined a cardiology practice in the Quad Cities area of Iowa. He was board certified in internal medicine and cardiology and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
