Biography

At the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games, Bernardo Onori was the most experienced Italian boxer, reaching his first Olympics as a bantamweight at age 30. He began his career, often interrupted by injuries, in 1963 and joined Società Pugilistica Nettunense. He was twice C.I.S.M. (Military sport) Champion (1970-71). Onori competed at the 1974 World Championships in Cuba and wore the Azzurra jersey of the Italian national team for over 40 bouts.

Onori’s major international tournament was the 1976 Montréal Olympics, where he dispatched his first two opponents with ease but was eliminated in the third round by decision against the upcoming silver medalist, Charlie Mooney (USA). Onori never turned professional.
