Franco Vescovi reached the welterweight quarter-final at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he lost to the eventual silver medalist, Sergey Shcherbakov of the Soviet Union. In his six-year professional career (1953-59), Vescovi had 40 bouts, with 18 wins, 7 draws, and 15 losses. Between July 1955 and March 1956, he was based in Australia, and engaged in five contests (all losses) at Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.
