Biography
Carmen Williamson was a top amateur boxer in the United States in the late 1940s and early 1950s. In 1984 he became the first African-American boxing referee at the Olympics. He was a career military man, serving in the Navy, and then worked for more than 40 years at the Army’s automotive tank division in Warren, Michigan. He also travelled the world in the 1980s teaching boxing to young people.
After his retirement Williamson started taking college classes, as his family told how he loved education and wanted to complete his. In April 2020, he was three weeks away from obtaining his college degree from the University of Toledo when he succumbed to COVID-19.
