Biography

Franz, brother of Gottfried Langthaler was an Austrian weightlifter who participated in the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Summer Games. He came sixth and eighth respectively in the heavyweight I division. Domestically, Langthaler won 18 individual and six team titles and was one of Austria´s best-ever weightlifters. At European and World Championships, he never enjoyed a podium finish but came close with fourth position on four occasions. Langthaler later became vice-president of the Austrian Weightlifting Association. He also worked with the sports office of his hometown Wien (Vienna).
