Biography

Weightlifter Anton Richter was an Austrian featherweight who burst onto the scene in 1935 by winning the bronze medal at the European Championships. He then finished fourth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. At London 1948 he finished 11th and announced his retirement soon after the Games.

Between Berlin and London, Richter won the silver medal at the 1937 World Championships and the bronze medal in 1938. Also in 1938 he won the German Fighting Games. Richter set six world records in the featherweight clean & jerk in total. Nationally, Richter won the German national title in 1939 and 1940, and the Austrian national title in 1935-38, 1940, 1946, 1948, and 1950-52. He was a policeman by profession.
