Valentin Hristov had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1980 Olympics Heavyweight class (405.0 kg); 1st in the 1975 World Championships Heavyweight class (417.5 kg); 1st in the 1977 World Championships Heavyweight class (405.0 kg); 2nd in the 1979 World Championships Heavyweight class (402.5 kg); 2nd in the 1980 World Championships Heavyweight class (405.0 kg); 2nd in the 1974 European Championships Heavyweight class (387.5 kg); 1st in the 1975 European Championships Heavyweight class (417.5 kg); 1st in the 1976 European Championships Heavyweight class (415.0 kg); 1st in the 1977 European Championships Heavyweight class (405.0 kg); 2nd in the 1980 European Championships Heavyweight class (402.5 kg). He set 10 heavyweight world records in 1975-76 – three in the snatch, two in the clean & jerk, and five in the total.
