Biography

Competing as a middle-heavyweight out of Palestra Ginnastica Ferrara, Luciano Zardi had his best year in 1951, when he took silver for Italy in the Mediterranean Games and the European Championships, behind Egypt’s Ibrahim Saleh and France’s Raymond Herbaux respectively. He also took part in the World Championships that year, where he placed fifth. He was then selected to represent his country at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he placed ninth overall, but was the second-highest placed European. These two years were also the only years that he won titles at the Italian national championships.
