Biography

Georges Freiburghaus of Genève was the holder of multiple national titles and records in weightlifting in the 1950s, and was selected to represent his country at the 1960 Olympics held in Roma. Competing in the middleweight class, he finished 18th in a field of 27 competitors. Setting a new national record at the age of 41 in the two-arm press in 1968, Freiburghaus continued to compete until after turning 50, and was a longtime member of the Club Hygiénique de Châtelaine. He made his living as a chauffeur.
