Biography

Greco-Roman wrestler Svend Erik Studsgaard was a multiple time Danish champion, referee, manager, and coach. Studsgaard began his sporting career as a gymnast but quickly switched to wrestling when he was 15. As a senior wrestler he won 14 individual Danish championship titles, a national record which stood at the time of his death, along with five team championship titles. Studsgaard wrestled in the heavyweight class at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, finishing in eighth place. The same year he also finished in sixth place at the European Championships. Studsgaard’s final bout in the ring came in a friendly match in Budapest in 1992.

Studsgaard was also a wrestling referee, coach, and manager. He sat on the board of the wrestling department and was a member of the FFI wrestling club. Outside of wrestling Studsgaard started a sail making company in 1975, which he ran along with multiple family members up until his death.
