André Lamy began competing at the senior national French wrestling championships in 1951 with ASM Omnisports and, over the next 10 years won 15 medals in the 78 kg category. His medals spanned both wrestling styles, but he was most successful in Greco-Roman, capturing six titles in that division between 1951 and 1961. These victories led to his selection to represent France in the Middleweight, Greco-Roman tournament at the 1960 Rome Olympics. There he lost by decision in the first two rounds, against Jiří Kormaník of Czechoslovakia and Pentti Punkari of Finland, and was eliminated. He retired from active competition after the 1961 season.
