Biography

Arsen Alakhverdiyev took up wrestling in 1964 and competed in the freestyle flyweight class throughout his career. During his career, Alakhverdiyev won 1972 Olympic silver, 1973 World Championships silver and was three times European Champion (1972, 1973, 1975). He also won the World Cup in 1973 and took silver at the 1976 European Championships. Domestically, Alakhverdiyev won one Soviet title in 1975, silver four times (1972, 1974, 1976 and 1977) and bronze in 1971 at the Soviet Championships.
