Biography

Gennady Strakhov took up wrestling in 1964 and made the Soviet national team in 1969, when he won his first Soviet title. Competing as a freestyle light-heavyweight his entire career, Strakhov won Olympic silver in 1972, was World Champion in 1970 and European Champion in 1969 and 1972. Domestically, at the Soviet Championships, Strakhov won two titles (1969, 1970), one silver (1971) and one bronze (1972).
