Biography

Although twice a national champion, Dick Voliva only made the 1936 Olympic team as an alternate. He moved up when his form improved in the pre-Olympic training camp, and at the Olympics he posted six straight victories before being pinned in the finals by Émile Poilvé of France. Voliva earned his degree from Indiana University and later coached football and track at Montclair State. He moved on to Rutgers in 1946 and coached wrestling, football, and track at the New Jersey school for over 30 years.
