Biography

Ralph Evans was a graduate of MIT and sailed out of the Massachusetts Bay Area Club at the 1948 Olympics. Evans was in the Navy in World War II, where he was a Corsair pilot. He enrolled at MIT after the war. Evans learned to sail in Cape Cod baby knockabouts off Great South Bay off Long Island. The 1948 single-handed Olympic trials were held in interclub dinghies and Evans only learned to sail the Firefly after he qualified, when one was provided for him by the MIT Nautical Society.
