Biography

Roberto Mottola di Amato was an Italian entrepreneur and sailor. At 18-years-old he took part at the München Olympics in the Soling Class and then moved to the Tempest Class the following year, finishing sixth at the World Championships. After winning Italian titles in 1974 and 1975, he won the 1975 World Championships, alongside Giuseppe Milone, and placed third at the pre-Olympics regatta in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In the following years Mottola di Amato returned to the Soling Class and won Italian titles in 1982 and 1983. In 1986 he won a silver medal at the Capri World Championships in the Star Class, again accompanying Milone.

Married to Allegra Hicks, a London-based interior and textile designer, Mottola di Amato has been President of the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia since the 2000s.
