František Souček

František Souček was a Czech track and field athlete who represented Sparta Praha and competed for Bohemia. At the 1906 Intercalated Games Souček finished in sixth place in the Greek-style discus throw, 10th in the freestyle javelin throw, and joint-14th in the pentathlon. He participated in the standard discus throw, but his distance was not recorded, and he was scheduled to compete in the marathon and the shot put but did not start either event. Two years later Souček competed in the discus and javelin throws at the 1908 London Olympics, but again the distance of his throws where not recorded.

Souček competed actively for 33 years, mainly in the discus, javelin, and shot put. In 1907, he set a record with the discus of 42.63 m, which stood as a Czechoslovakian record for more than 20 years. In addition, he held national records in the hammer and javelin throw. He was an active member of the Sokol movements and educated young people in athletics. After Czechoslovakia gained independence, Souček underwent military training. Since 1899 he had been working at the Municipal Savings Bank of Vinohrady, which became part of Praha (Prague) in 1922.
