Biography

Eurico de Freitas was a top jumper in the very early days of Brazilian athletics. At a meet in Sao Paulo in July 1919 he won the high jump and pole vault in the first recorded Brazilian athletics competition. He broke the Brazilian pole vault record in 1919 and then bettered it six times. He won the first Brazilian national title in the high jump in 1925, although he was semi-retired by then. He eventually set national records in the high jump, pole vault, long jump, and 110 hurdles. De Freitas was selected for the 1922 Latin American meet but it is uncertain if he competed.
