Bulgarian track and field athletes made their début at the Olympics at the 1924 Paris Games. Vasil Venkov was one of four Bulgarians to compete in athletics in Paris, with him running in the 10,000 metres. The race was competed as a final only with Venkov being one of the several athletes who did not finish the course. He was also scheduled to run in the 5,000 metres in Paris but did not start the race.
