Beside her Olympic results (fifth in 1972 and fourth in 1976) Marianne Adam was runner-up at the 1974 European Championships, and won the 1975 European Indoor Championship, an event in which she was runner-up 1979, and placed third in 1972 and 1974. She was East German national champion from 1974 to 1976, and also set three world records in 1975 and 1976.
