Biography

East German long jumper Brigitte Wujak was married to middle-distance runner and non-Olympian Volker Wujak shortly before the 1980 Moskva Games, although the couple later divorced. In Moskva she earned the silver medal. At the 1977 World Cup she finished fourth and two years later placed second. At the Europeans she was fourth in 1978 and finished 10th in 1982. She won the 1977 and 1979 European Cups. In East Germany Wujak won the outdoor title in 1977 and the indoor one in 1980. Educated as a sports teacher, she became a civil servant at the Federal Boarder Guard after reunification. Wujak’s name was listed in the documents found after reunification concerning systematic doping practices in the former GDR.
