Biography

East German high jumper Jörg Freimuth was the twin brother of decathlete Uwe Freimuth, the brother-in-law of Uwe’s wife, non-Olympian Anke Tröger (1981 Youth European Champion in heptathlon), and the uncle of their twin sons Rico and Hanno, who became a youth national player in basketball. Jörg won a high jump bronze medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics with his personal best of 2.31 m. He also participated in the 1981 World Cup (3rd), the 1981 European Cup (4th) and the 1981 European Indoor Championships (6th). Domestically he won indoor national titles in 1981-82, and the outdoor championship in 1982. Freimuth was educated as an electrical mechanic.
