Biography

East German 100 sprinter Sven Matthes was eliminated in the quarter finals of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He held the 60 m indoor world record from 1988-2001 with 6.53, a mark which still stands (through 2015) as the German indoor record. In 1988, Matthes also set a European record with 10.14 over 100. He participated in the 1989 World Cup and European Cup, and the 1988 and the 1992 European Indoors. Domestically Matthes won nine East German titles.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.11 (1989).
