Biography

Mathias Schersing, a 400 metre runner, finished a close fourth in the 4x400 relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He competed in the 1987 World Championships and was runner-up with the 1,600 relay at both the 1985 World Cup and the 1985 European Cup. His career highlight came at the 1986 Europeans, winning a bronze medal in the 400. Schersing also placed third at the 1986 European Indoors, and won East German titles that year in the 400 metres, both indoor and outdoor. In 1987 he repeated his indoor title. Schersing would later marry his teammate Petra Müller.

Personal Best: 400 – 44.85 (1986).
