Biography

Peter Selzer, a race walker, came in fourth at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and fifth at the 1972 München Olympics in the 50 km. At the European Championships he won bronzes in the 50 km in 1971 and 1974, and a silver in 1969. Selzer set five world records during his career. In 1966, 1967 and 1973 he was East German Champion in the 50 km, placing second in 1968-69 and 1971-72. Selzer was trained as a turner, but later worked as a race walking coach, eventually becoming race walking head coach in Berlin.
