Biography

Georgios Drosos was a Greek long-distance runner who was one of the 32 runners who ran in the marathon at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. Drosos was not mentioned in any of the pre-race entry lists in the multiple St. Louis newspapers of 1904, so he was likely a last-minute entry, as he was listed in the final program, albeit as a “novice”. He was one of the many athletes who failed to complete the course, which was infamous for being held on dusty country roads on a very hot day. Little else is known about Drosos but he probably emigrated from Greece to the United States and lived in San Francisco, and if so, was born in Greece on 6 May 1884.
