Biography

Greek track and field athlete Christos Pierrakos began his career as a high jumper before switching to the javelin. Under his new discipline Pierrakos dominated the event during the 1960s, becoming a six-time national champion (1962–66, 1968). In 1964 he won gold at the Balkan Championships, finished 10th at the Tokyo Olympics, and was named the Best Greek Athlete at the PSAT Sports Awards. After his competitive career Pierrakos worked as a coach from 1972 until 1989, in addition to competing in veterans competitions.
