Biography

Jen Allred ran the marathon at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She also competed for Guam at the 1991 World Championships, running the 3,000 metres, but was eliminated in round one. At the 1991 South Pacific Games, Allred won four medals, with golds in the 1,500 metres, 3,000 metres, and 10K, and an 800 metre silver medal.

Allred studied at American River College; California State University, Northridge; the University of North Florida; and Cal State Sacramento. She later coached track and cross-country at Sierra College and American River College. Her son, Neilson Powless, became a professional cyclist who, when he competed in the 2020 Tour de France, became the first US cyclist to compete in that race with Native American heritage, having Oneida tribe ethnicity on his father’s side. Her daughter, Shayna Powless, also competed as a professional cyclist.
