Biography

Athlete Antal Lovas won his first 3 mile championship in the colors of MTK in 1908. He won several national championships in the early part of the 20th century, in distances ranging from 2 miles to Marathon. Lovas competed in the London Olympics in 1908 and at Paris 16 years later when, at the age of 40, he finished 28th in the Marathon. At age of 66, he comfortably ran the Szeged Marathon in 330 C. heat. His sporting longevity was attributed largely to his vegetarian lifestyle. Lovas lived for many years in the United States often running for the Irish-American Athletic Club in New York. He finally returned to Hungary one month before his death in 1970.
