Biography

Ferenc Paragi first became noticed internationally in 1972 when he broke the world junior record for the javelin, throwing 80.06. He was Hungarian Champion in 1975-77, 1979, and 1982. In July 1977 he became the second Hungarian to surpass 90 metres, with 90.40. In April 1980 Paragi broke the world record with a mark of 96.72. He struggled at major internationals, never winning a medal at the Olympics or European Championships. Paragi later became a coach, and in Hungary directed the Hercules program to train young javelin throwers.
