Mohamed Purnomo was the top Indonesian sprinter in the 1980s, competing at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay. Purnomo made the semi-finals of the 100 metres, and the quarter-finals of the 200. He was gold medalist at the 1985 Southeast Asian Games in the 200 metres and won a silver medal in the 200 metres at the 1983 Asian Championships.
