Biography

Purma Bannerjee had the distinction of being the first flag bearer for India at the Opening Ceremony at an Olympic Games. Bannerjee was part of the delegation of five athletes that represented the nation at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics. He was a sprinter and ran in the 100 metres and 400 metres but did not advance from the heats in either race.
